Probably you have some securiry plugins or theme or just a bug. It works fine with default theme.
Also there are some problems with HTTPS settings – WP return HTTPS AJAX URL when use HTTP. It would be much better to redirect on HTTPS always. https://pdftests.wpengine.com/?page_id=26
It works in Firefox. – https://pdftests.wpengine.com/?page_id=26
Use images as book thumbnails – the page will load much quicker.
