Suddenly the internal navigation links in the PDF are not working.

You need to check interactive for the pages with links or disable the pages customization.
Interaction works properly. If you download the PDF you'll see it works well
Open the book in the book editor, go to the pages tab and disable pages customization.
Sorry, you mean inside the plugin or the the PDF viewer on Mac?
