You have lazy images loading mechanism or something, there is a style:

.lazy-enabled #main-content img {
    opacity: 0;
}

redefine it with

.lazy-enabled #main-content .book-thumbnail img {
    opacity: 1;
}

And use custom image as a book thumbnail instead of auto thumbnail – it will work much faster.
