Is it possible to change the size of the thumbnail and to embed the thumbnail with a link in an email so that it opens up automatically in lightbox, not just to the webpage?

Yes you can change thumbnail size: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SbHrjTZATg , but it is not possible to use it in email.

Nope change the whole site just for your plugin is not an acceptable solution!
